At Reunion Community Project, we are delighted to celebrate Black History Month — a time to remember, recognise and celebrate the history, achievements, contributions and experiences of Black people.
For us, Black History Month is not simply about looking back. It is about recognising the people who have helped shape our communities, celebrating the contributions of those who came before us, and making sure that their stories are not forgotten.
It is also about celebrating the stories within our own community. Our elders carry memories, experiences and wisdom that are precious. Our young people represent the future. By bringing generations together, we create opportunities to listen, learn, share and understand one another.
Through our work at Reunion Community Project, we believe in creating spaces where people feel welcomed, valued and connected. Black History Month gives us another opportunity to come together, celebrate our heritage and share stories that can educate and inspire.
We also want to recognise the many people who quietly make a difference every day — through volunteering, caring for families, supporting neighbours, serving in churches and communities, encouraging others and simply being there for someone who needs a helping hand.
Our history belongs to all of us, and it continues to be written through the lives we live and the difference we make today.
This Black History Month, let us remember those who came before us, celebrate those making a difference today, and inspire the generations who will come after us.
