Health Awareness Session – May 2026 Reunion Brunch

The May 2026 Reunion Brunch Health Session began with an overview of health awareness and why it is important that we pay attention to our overall wellbeing. Health was explored in its different aspects, including physical, mental, emotional, and social wellbeing, helping participants to reflect on the importance of caring for the whole person.

The health awareness session was delivered by Michael Lewis, an experienced and highly motivated Community Psychiatric Nurse with Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, based at Quayside House and working within the Early Intervention in Psychosis Service. Michael shared valuable insight from his professional experience in supporting individuals with psychosis and complex mental health needs. His presentation highlighted the importance of evidence-based care, mental wellbeing, early support, safeguarding, and person-centred approaches to health. Participants appreciated his knowledge, practical advice, and engaging delivery style.

Before the session commenced, participants were invited to choose from a variety of snacks and drinks that had been beautifully displayed, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for fellowship and conversation, with soft music playing in the background which added to the relaxing and enjoyable environment.

Participants then engaged in a 10-minute Health and Wellbeing word search activity. Following the activity, a lively discussion took place which revealed that many participants had gained new knowledge and enjoyed sharing their experiences and thoughts on healthy living.

This was followed by a chair exercise session which participants thoroughly enjoyed. Many commented that the exercises were relaxing, uplifting, and easy to follow. The session encouraged participants to think about simple ways to remain active and support their mobility and wellbeing.

Information regarding the upcoming visit to Cannon Hill was also shared, with several participants signing up and expressing interest in attending.

Special acknowledgement and appreciation were given to the staff at Lighthouse Cafe, who consistently go above and beyond to ensure that each Reunion Brunch session is welcoming, well presented, and enjoyable for everyone attending. Their continued support, hospitality, and kindness are greatly valued and contribute significantly to the warm community atmosphere experienced at every gathering.

The Reunion Community Project would also like to express sincere and continued thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund for their ongoing support. Through their generous funding, many of the Reunion Community Project activities and community sessions have been made possible, helping to enrich lives, encourage wellbeing, reduce isolation, and strengthen community connections.
